Books on Joy

The last week of joyful July, have you been having fun? I've had too much and now need to rest and curl up with a good book or few...

There's two JOY books on my shelf ; Joy on Demand by Chade-Meng Tan, author of Search Inside Yourself and The Book of Joy with Dalai Lama and Archbishop Desmond Tutu. I read the contents pages and promise to read and apply over the summer...

Joy on Demand has a warning of 'side effects may include radically reduced stress, persist signs of resiliency and previously unimaginable success.' Wow! Sounds great! Chade-Meng, was a Google engineer, 'The Jolly Good Fellow' and bought mindfulness and meditation to their work force, creating a happy environment with everyone that took the course. This follow up from Search Inside Yourself is a guide to finding joy, a high vibration, whenever you need it. Written in his usual entertaining way and childlike cartoons to get his points across. It's all about mind training, breathing, meditation with practical steps to achieve joy.

The Book of Joy ' Lasting happiness in a changing world' is a document when Archbishop Desmond Tutu visited the Dalai Lama at his home in Dharamsala (we wandered to his holinesses house in 2012 and were shooed away...)

For 7 days the spiritual leaders exchanged their stories, joked, had fun and shed a few tears to reveal how to live a life brimming with joy. Covering 'nothing beautiful comes without suffering', their greatest joys, how to overcome obstacles of joy including anxiety, fear, anger, despair, loneliness, envy, illness and death.

They share the 8 pillars of joy...

Perspective, Humility, Humor, Acceptance, Forgiveness, Gratitude, Compassion and Generosity.

Reading is important to gain a new perspective, to learn and apply these wise mens visions.

Summer holidays are a perfect time to read, whilst lying in a hammock joyfully sipping a Pernod or two.

Joy isn't just for July, continue the fun and have happy holidays!!
