Top 5 Easter films

March 30, 2018

Happiness is tucked up on a sofa watching films with rain beating against la fenêtre avec une grande boîte de chocolats. Je suis en France.

Easter is here! A four day weekend! What will you do?

Here a list of My Top 5 Easter films for your enjoyment.

1. Easter Parade (1948)

In your Easter bonnet with all the frills upon it! Classic Easter musical starting Judy Garland and Fred Astaire top tunes, fabulous costume, vintage Hollywood! Will the film inspire an Easter bonnet craftanoon and parade?

2. Jesus Christ Superstar (1973)

Jesus Christ Superstar!
Adapted from Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice's Broadway rock opera, "Jesus Christ Superstar" recounts the last days of Jesus Christ from the perspective of Judas Iscariot, his betrayer. With classic songs ‘I don’t know how to love him’ ‘Jesus Christ Superstar’ ‘Herod’s Song.’ This is a 70’s camp classic.

3. The Last Temptation of Christ (1988)

Directed by Martin Scorsese, it's one of the more controversial retellings of Jesus' life, with Willem Dafoe as Jesus, Harvey Keitel as Judas Iscariot, Barbara Hershey as Mary Magdalene, David Bowie as Pontius Pilate, and Harry Dean Stanton as Paul. Throughout the film Jesus is tempted by the various sins he must overcome, including fear, doubt, depression, reluctance.

4. The Gospel According to St. Matthew (1964)

Pier Paolo Pasolini's Biblical drama follows the life of Jesus Christ (Enrique Irazoqui) as depicted in the Gospel of Matthew from the New Testament. Much of the dialogue in the Italian film hews closely to the text, which focuses on the teachings of Jesus, including his parables, and on their revolutionary nature. As Jesus travels along the coast of the Sea of Galilee, he gradually gathers more followers, leading him into direct conflict with the authorities.

5. "It's the Easter Beagle, Charlie Brown" (1974)

Snoopy is a family favourite! A seasonal romp from the Peanuts gang. Linus tries to convince everyone the Easter Beagle will make the holiday a success when he arrives on Easter morning. Will they believe?

Please tell me your favourite Easter film.

Have a great weekend.
